The modish architecture behind this chair originates from Acapulco, Mexico (yes this is where the movie "Instructions Not Included" was filmed) and have traveled the globe. Synonymous with the calm of the Pacific Ocean and movie stars living the high life, Acapulco chairs are reminiscent of tropical vacation getaways, hot sand, and fruity cocktails.

This is the third installment of a five part series that covers the Acapulco chair. You can catch up by reading Part I and Part II. This installment will show you some creative ways to decorate with the Acapulco Chair.

Once you have a seat in the sun, you'll understand exactly what Acapulco chairs were made for; catching a tan and lounging under the sun! If you'll notice, the corded design is spaced in a way that provides support without restricting the flow of air. This means that you are able to lounge comfortably without excessive perspiration during the warmer months. Can anybody say sun-room?

Some of the color options are vibrant and borderline fluorescent. By adding a single or pair of Acapulco's, you can instantly add a splash of color to your outdoor living space. An individual chair and a matching decorative pillow can accent the primary color of your choice.

As you can tell, Molly has a knack for design. She's done projects for Hollywood A-listers like Julie Bowen (Gilmore Girls), Sam Trammell (TrueBlood), and Lauren Graham (Modern Family). Stop by her page to be amazed!

Acapulco Chairs Indoors

Although they are simplistic in design, Acapulco chairs elicit a certain sense of high fashion and classic sophistication. Mid-century modern construction makes the Acapulco chair adaptable for eclectic interiors. The retro look allows you to feature it in an antique layout with a hint of a modern update just to keep with the times. In this way, they can be applied to modern and even art-deco interiors.

It's quite common to see single Acapulco's being used as decorate pieces. For residential use, they can be added in to a reading nook, child's nursery, or family living area. Above, translucent Acapulco chairs were used in the Avoca House. Mark Tuckey's beachfront property was also featured in Inside Outside Magazine. I can't share the excerpts myself but I encourage you to click here to check out some pictures from his site. Those yellow Acapulco's are an instant mood-changer.

Although the pinks, yellow, oranges, and greens have been popular, some people like the more rustic browns that can be used for vintage style homes. Carlos Ocho made a leather Acapulco chair that that is quite remarkable. You can view it by checking out Spin-Offs of the Acapulco Chair.

Commercial Venues

These chairs are often used in large commercial venues including beach resorts, outdoor restaurants, rooftop gardens, vacations spots, cinemas, and the likes. It's a proven fact that colors have an influence on human psychology. For this reason, this collection of vibrant colors creates a setting that promotes cordial interactions among complete strangers.

Believe it or not, the above photograph was taken on a Starbucks outdoor deck in Japan. These oval shaped Acapulco rockers are in line with the social third place that Starbucks so famously creates. Wi-Fi, great coffee, and well-maintained seating create the perfect environment for socialization. Maeko noted that Acapulco chairs are very popular in Japan as well!
