Your backyard is your oasis. A place to come home, take in the sounds of nature, and relax. Make your patio more inviting by adding a trendy splash of color. The trendiest choice right now? The Pantone 2019 Color of the Year, is living coral. Pantone Color Institute’s choice influences everything from fashion design to wedding accessories to product packaging. Living coral is a gorgeous and energetic color with a soft hue. It goes well with nearly any color, and the tone brings a relaxing feel to your yard. Here are five ways to incorporate this magnificent color into your outdoor scheme.

Patio Furniture and Decor

Start simply by changing out your patio decor. This allows you some flexibility. Choose a wicker sofa with coral or Sunbrella cushions. Complement this with outdoor pillows, rugs, and wall hangings. A chaise lounge with coral or rose cushions adds the perfect touch to your pool. A living coral patio umbrella offers a cool touch on a hot summer day.

Landscaping With Flowers

Landscaping is one of the most effective ways to incorporate new colors. Plant living coral-hued flowers such as coral rose and bush mallow in a border around the yard. Coral zinnias and dahlias will also frame your patio nicely. Accent these with coral flower pots filled with white milkweed. You’ll have a calming color and attract butterflies all season long. Mix in some greenery for contrast with terra cotta planters.

Landscaping Stones

You can trim your patio with large or small coral decor stones. Picture the nice contrast to your green lawn. Adding a stone walkway or placing decorative stones along a pathway can be a stunning change.

Garden and Patio Art

A small statue or water feature in living coral also adds pizazz. Choose sculptures or outdoor art pieces that reflect your personality. If you like subtle more than bold, choose pieces with subtle coral accents to call attention to your flower beds and shrubbery.

Door or Window Trim

While you may not want to paint your entire house coral (that may be overkill,) painting your window trim or shutters could add just the right touch. Once again, the Pantone color matches most shades, so whether your house is white or brown, a coral trim might accent it nicely. Consider painting a garden trellis or decorative fencing if you want a few changes.

The nice thing about choosing patio accessories in the Pantone Color of the Year is that you can easily change things up when the trend changes. The vice president of Pantone Color Institute has let slip that the 2020 color will be a little bolder but still easy to mix and match. The color will be inspired by the sea: Think blue and green. But don’t be so quick to get rid of those living coral throw pillows! There’s coral in the sea as well.
