Rectangular Outdoor Dining Tables
The rectangular table is the default for a reason. It fits naturally on most rectangular patios, seats more people per square foot than a round of equivalent area, and scales cleanly from six to ten seats by simply changing the length. Standard sizes run from 60 inches (seats six) up to 96 inches for eight to ten, and the proportions work whether the table is freestanding or anchored under a pergola. The full selection lives in our outdoor dining tables collection.
One distinction worth making: a fixed-length rectangular table and an extendable one serve different households. If you always have six or eight at the table, a fixed top in cast aluminum, teak, or poly lumber is simpler and typically more durable. If your headcount varies — weeknight dinners for four, weekend gatherings for eight — an extendable rectangular table with a butterfly or pull-out leaf does that work without requiring two tables. Either way, most of our rectangular tables are sold as part of a complete set; see our outdoor dining sets for the full seating configurations.
Cast aluminum furniture holds its shape across temperature swings without warping, making it well-suited to the long rectangular top format. Teak develops a silver-grey patina with age if left untreated, which many buyers find more attractive over time. Composite wood brands typically offer up to a 20-year warranty that covers the lumber against any form of structural failure — good to know on a large table that gets daily use.
