A Signature Shape Built Into Every Piece
The Opal collection from Jensen Outdoor announces itself with a single design detail: an open circular cutout at the top of every seat back. The name comes from the precious stone, and the gesture is similarly refined — a deliberate aperture that lightens the frame visually and identifies every piece in the collection at a glance. It's the kind of signature that reads as intentional without calling attention to itself.
All 14 pieces are built from FSC-certified Ipe timber, sourced from Jensen's managed Bolivian forestry operation. Ipe's silica-dense cellular structure makes it naturally impervious to water, rot, and insects without any chemical preservatives. The wood arrives chocolate brown and weathers gracefully to silver over time, or it can be maintained at its original tone with periodic oiling. Coverage is unusually complete for a single collection: lounge chairs, swivel rockers, ottomans, dining arm chairs, dining side chairs, swivel counter arm chairs, swivel bar arm chairs, and a 48" round bar table.
The dining table base carries its own architectural backstory. Designer Dick Bjork drew the cross-beam geometry from the Hancock Center in Chicago — the iconic building's X-brace structure translated into a tabletop support that has both visual presence and structural integrity. For shoppers furnishing a full outdoor space across multiple height zones, Opal is one of the few single-collection answers. Pair dining chairs with a dining set configuration, or mix the deep seating and bar stools for a terrace that does real entertaining work.
Jensen backs all collections with a 5-year residential warranty. All pieces ship fully assembled, free of charge, anywhere in the USA.
