Teak and Wicker Outdoor Sofas are great for the patio because they are highly durable and they make a great combination. Wicker is a very modern trend that homeowners have taken with them from Resort Hotels. Teak offers a fresh and natural touch without the concern of wear and tear from the outdoor elements.
Although wicker is very popular, adding a teak accent can be an upgrade from ordinary sets. They help you different your patio arrangement from other’s in the neighborhood. Teak feet are also more durable than plastic feet that can wear down over time. Here are a few pieces that will help you get the ideas flowing.
Teak and Wicker Will Last a Lifetime
Teak (Tectona Grandis) is well-known for its outdoor qualities. Most people know it as the best wood for outdoor furniture but they don’t know why. In its original state, teak patio furniture produces a natural oil unlike any other type of wood. This oil prevents dry rot and makes teak perfect for patio furniture.
Now some of you question the durability of synthetic wicker. First, it’s not the real thing! I know, I know. Synthetic resin wicker is better suited for outdoor environments than natural wicker. You can read why here. Some people may have had bad experiences with wicker in the past due to inferior quality brands.
If you’ll notice, wicker sets vary in price dramatically from a mere couple hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. What I’ve found is that cheap wicker sets in big box stores are made from plastic. That’s why the break and unravel. The more expensive sets are made of a material called High Density Polyethylene (abbreviated as HDPE). These sets are infused with UV inhibitors and the wicker is actually hardened to prevent chips, cracks, or tears.
