Ok, even Reddit user jbh425 admits that this might not be everybody’s idea of a patio oasis, but after all the back breaking work, it certainly is to him. We’ve seen many patio renovations through the years, but jbh425’s is worth mentioning because he goes the extra mile to spend as little as possible. Although he mentions this led to a few headaches for which he required a bottle of Ibuprofen for, he accomplished his goal nonetheless.
Inspired by a trip Central America, jbh425’s wife wanted to recreate the look of a smoothie bar they had visited in Nicaragua. The laid back atmosphere and colorful decor of the bar create a casual yet stimulating environment. Perfect for people who like their patios with a little more personality. The eclectic patterns of the cushions and bright fabrics really make the decor stand out.
Installing a paver patio is no easy task. Constant measuring and cutting of heavy slabs of material means there is a lot of back breaking work. To get the materials he needed, jbh425 looked up local concrete contractors who provided him with two truck loads for $30! But of course, he had to do all the heavy lifting himself. Materials for the fencing were dug up from his basement and he even used an old door when material ran out. Luckily he had a window frame to make it look less awkward.
As the old saying goes, a happy wife makes for a happy life. Therefore jbh425 must be very happy. You’ll want to read through the comments in the picture album because he does a great job of narrating the struggles of his experience, all while maintaining his sense of humor. He acknowledges some advanced planning could have made this project go a lot smoother, but that’s what gives his patio “charm.”
