Understanding How Misting Systems Can Work for You

You can have the best outdoor dinner party planned, as a sneaky way to show off your brand new grill, patio furniture or recently stained deck, and still fail as host of the year. That’s because the obnoxious summer temperatures are enough to ruin any nice outdoor event, and your guests, just like plants, will wilt under direct sunlight and too much heat. What can you do to keep your guests cool?

Some parts of the U.S. experience warm temperatures over 80 degrees almost all year round, and circulation or ceiling fans often fail to keep your guests cool. They also blow lightweight party objects around, such as paper plates, napkins and plastic cups, which will inevitably become a nuisance after a while.

Is there a solution for your outdoor event? Yes! Try a misting system. Patio misting systems create a gentle mist that instantly cools down a space and makes your guests feel more comfortable. Two common applications include the misting nodules attached to a fan that are pointed upwards and blow a light mist that gently falls on your guests, or the piped application that is discretely embedded along your home’s eaves or your screened porch’s exterior and pushes out a fine cloud of mist that slowly envelops the area.

How does a misting system work?

Every misting system will have a pipe, pump, nodules, water and pressure. You can view some examples here.  The pump draws the water up to the nodules, and air pressure, usually about 1,000psi for a high-pressured system, pushes out the water though the sprayers that break down water into fine water droplets. When accompanied by a fan, it maximizes the cooling effect since the fan blows the mist to cover more space.

Why is it effective in combating heat?

Mist is the presence of water in the air. When there is water in the air, there is an increase in humidity, so instead of dry, hot air covering you, you are immersed in a much cooler environment. Circulation fans can produce air flow; however, the air is usually dry and warm, which causes discomfort. Don’t confuse the function of a circulation fan with that of an air conditioner when it comes to how they create and circulate cooler air; air conditioners take in warm air, cool it on the condensers and coils, and then push it out into the nearby surroundings.

What misting options are available?

Depending on the size of the space you want to cool and your preference for how visible the equipment is, there are several different options, such as the following:

  • Piped Misting Fans – This is a fixed method that taps directly into the water lines and is attached to the exterior to produce a mist that cools the hot air coming into the space
  • Misting TEE Bars – Shaped like a capital “T,” this is a portable method to cool a designated area
  • Stationary Misting Fans – These are fixed circulation fans with misting nozzles that distribute mist
  • Portable Misting Fans – Attached to a bucket and ideal for sporting events, a pump draws the water up and pushes mist out of the nodules. Some fans even rotate to provide more of a semicircular cooling effect

With one of these misting systems in place on your patio, you can go ahead and take the title of host of the year for your fabulous outdoor event! If you would like more information about how they can work for your property, contact a misting systems expert.

Misting makes sense to me because your body uses a similar method of cooling. Your body cools off when sweat evaporates. Misting coolers would cause your skin to be moist, giving something to be evaporated. Also, the water in the mist is likely pretty cold too. This would be perfect when working at an outdoor event in the summer.

  2. Misting Tents

We love misting systems! Combining the power of the mist with shade is the best way to stay cool all summer long. That’s why Cool-Off misting tents are the most popular option among outdoor youth athletic teams, parents and fans.

  3. Question… With a misting system, what direction should my outdoor ceiling fans be (summer-downard airlow, or upward, winter type operation).

I have misters and a ceiling fan on my pation
