How to Decorate a Poolside Patio for Maximum Fun

How to Decorate a Poolside Patio for Maximum Fun

There are so many ways to decorate a residential or commercial pool to make it more enjoyable, comfortable and fun for family, friends and guests.  The poolside is the perfect place to pair fun with functionality.  Options can be overwhelming when choosing poolside patio furniture, storage, entertainment, and décor. Don’t stress! Just remember this section is supposed to be about sunbathing, swimming, splashing, snacking and soaking up endless summers in your outdoor poolside space. Bringing life outdoors.

First and foremost, start with “function”. And where we come from, “function” means furniture. Decide if the space will better lend itself to lounging, poolside parties, outdoor dining or any other pleasure purposes.  How you need the space to function will guide your choice of outdoor pool furniture.

For instance, maybe you want to create a restful resort-a respite space for sunbathing, lounging, loafing and lazy days. Then you might consider adding plenty of pool patio furniture like daybeds, sectional sofas, chaise lounges, loveseats and ottomans.  Complimentary pieces could include stackable patio chairs for additional seating, side tables, accent and end tables.  Other options for seating that might suit your style are swivel club chairs, deep seating composite patio chairs to cozy into conversations, classic wicker club chairs or composite Adirondack chairs. Maybe you like to chef it up and barbecue for family and friends on your state-of-the-art outdoor grill.  Your pool patio furniture floorplan might include a full outdoor dining table, expandable tables or bistro sets for snacking and sitting poolside.

There can never be enough storage solutions in multifunctional entertainment spaces.  Youth of all ages and the terminally young at heart love pool toys.  If your pool is large enough for outdoor water sports such as floating volley ball nets and basketball hoops then you’ll need space to tuck these tools away when not in use to keep your pool looking pristine. Pack away floats, noodles, and blow-up balls in wicker chests, outdoor console tables or hidden storage compartments in poolside furniture. Storage bins organized with baskets is a great option to keep knickknacks and necessities sorted in a neat way. Patio console tables are also the perfect place to put away yoga props and mats for yogis and other outdoor exercise aficionados.  There’s nothing like swimming a few laps then stretching in the sun. Other practical storage stands are shoe racks for flip flops and towel racks for the most common wet water accessory. Consider a covered towel cabana for folded robes or to expand storage solutions with shelves for sunscreen and bug spray. Everyone’s storage needs will vary so make sure to take some to think about the items you might want out of sight so that your pool patio stays picture perfect.

Outside of swimming and sunbathing, pool sides can be versatile entertainment spaces. Outdoor picnic tables might be in your pool patio furniture plan for large groups and year-round grilling. If you plan to host poolside dinner parties then shatterproof serving spoons, forks, trays, flatware, dinnerware and napkins are entertaining essentials. Patio bar furniture is a good fit for those that like to party. Beverage containers and bar carts can be sensible solutions to keep the party going and everyone’s thirst quenched.  Imagine you or your guests are on an inflatable pool float or treading water in the deep end; a floating bar is the best option to keep the cool refreshing drinks coming. A premium poolside experience can be made possible with a poolside theater. Picture enjoying a Disney double header with Moana and Finding Nemo playing on a projector screen. An empty wall and portable projector are all you need for family film fun under the stars.

Décor sets the stage for gathering spots for guests. Throw pillows provide patterns, color pops and comfort for friends and family to get cushy and cozy on outdoor sofas and sectional sets. It can’t get much more comfortable than curling up on a cool night and sinking into deep seating to watch the stars. If you need a bit more than the celestial light to brighten up the night sky then lights above the pool or floating lights are always a lovely touch. Tiki torches and canella candles are pragmatic light sources and bug repellants.  Some plants can also keep pesky mosquitos away and add pretty green spaces around the pool.  Use poolside planters to simulate a tropical resort reef or hidden oasis. Market umbrellas are another dual solution to shade and style.

Last but not least on the list is luxury.  Not all outdoor pool furniture is a necessity, but some opulent items can really add to the richness of an outside space. Outdoor showers are ideal for rinsing off before and after swimming in the pool.  A shower before getting into the pool is recommended to remove sweat, sunscreen, body lotion and bacteria to keep your pool cleaner. A final elemental feature is a fire pit, fire table or portable patio heater for chilly nights. There are so many ideas to decorate a poolside for maximum fun. Don’t fuss about poolside perfection, just focus on creating a restful resort space that you can be proud to host guests and loved ones.
